Help Leo Save Health Care!

If you live in the United States, chances are you’ve spent a good part of the day trying to save health care. Us, too.

Luckily, our social media feeds and respective inboxes are full of like-minded people and organizations that understand how terrible the AHCA (cough*American Health Care Act*cough) is for all Americans. We addressed it previously in our piece for Planned Parenthood, but Trumpcare doesn’t stop there. It keeps going, 140 rage-filled characters at a time.

Today, MoveOn.org introduced us to Rashelle Hibbard and her son Leo. Unfortunately, their story is all too common. It shouldn’t be. We’ll let them tell you . . .

From Rashelle Hibbard:

When my son Leo was six months old, I started noticing that he wasn’t hitting his milestones. One year later, I learned that he was born with cerebral palsy.

In the years since Leo’s diagnosis, we have relied on the coverage Leo has received through Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act to access the vital services Leo needs to thrive and grow. If Republicans pass their health care repeal, which could be within weeks, our health care costs will go up—a lot. And not just for us—tens of millions of Americans and their families will be directly impacted by devastating cuts to Medicaid and by other provisions in the bill Senate Republicans are rushing to pass.

Leo was born with cerebral palsy, and defining him by that and limiting his access to the health care he needs because of the way that he was born is the purest form of discrimination, in my mind. If we can’t afford health insurance, isn’t it the same thing as denying Leo coverage for a pre-existing condition?

There are over 23 million more Americans like me—people who could lose coverage under Trumpcare or no longer be able to afford it. That means tens of millions more who could see protections for pre-existing conditions denied. We all lose out if the Senate acts to take away our coverage and drive up our costs.

Please watch the MoveOn.org video to learn more about Leo’s story and how you can save health care. Then share it. Share it like the wind.
