At Dads 4 Change, we believe in the power of the small gesture. It’s not so much about what one person can do to make a difference in the world. It’s about what we can do together.

As blogging ambassadors for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, part of our mission is to shine a light on the great work done by companies like Kmart to help end childhood cancer.

Kmart has donated more than $76.7 million to St. Jude since 2006. This year, the retail company introduced the Giving Hat, a sweet knit cap designed in conjunction with St. Jude to spread the message of joy and hope during the holidays.

The hats are charcoal gray and carry one of three uplifting messages in St. Jude green: “SMILE,” “LAUGH A LOT” and “GIVE THANKS.” The caps are $5, and $1 of every purchase through Dec. 31 goes directly to St. Jude.

They are available for purchase at Kmart stores everywhere and online.

Imagine if 10 million people bought a Giving Hat. That’s $10 million St. Jude can use to help pediatric cancer patients and their families get the treatment and care they need free of charge. That’s $10 million the St. Jude research arm can put toward finding a cure and cancer prevention.

It’s only $5 per hat. A small gesture, yes. But put all these small gestures together, and meaningful change can happen. That’s what it’s all about, right?
